The Mission Millet Programme by TrueLeaf Foundation is a sustainable agriculture initiative focused on reviving traditional millet cultivation among small and marginal farmers. The programme promotes climate-resilient farming practices, organic cultivation, and improved nutrition through millets such as ragi, jowar, and bajra. By providing farmers with quality seeds, training, market linkages, and awareness on the nutritional value of millets, the initiative aims to enhance farmer income while restoring soil health and biodiversity. Mission Millet also encourages healthy food habits within rural communities and schools, creating a stronger connection between sustainable farming, nutrition security, and environmental conservation.
This year, TrueLeaf Foundation partnered with tribal communities in Karjat to promote sustainable agriculture through millet cultivation. The Foundation mobilised 50 farmers and supported them in transitioning from traditional paddy cultivation to finger millet farming. Through training, field support, seed distribution, and awareness programmes, farmers were encouraged to adopt climate-resilient and low-input farming practices. Finger millet not only requires less water compared to paddy but also improves soil health and provides better nutritional value. This initiative aims to enhance farmer income, strengthen food security, and revive traditional millet-based farming systems within tribal communities.
